A certificate verifying Israeli citizenship from the Ministry of Interior is required in various situations. For example, when Israeli citizens seek to emigrate from Israel to another country,  they are often asked to present a certificate verifying their Israeli citizenship to the foreign immigration authorities. Additionally, a certificate verifying Israeli citizenship is sometimes required for matters related to family law between different countries, and similar circumstances. The process of issuing the certificate from the Population Registry in the Ministry of Interior is fairly simple and does not involve significant expenses or complexity.

The technical procedure for issuing a citizenship certificate is available only to those who are already recognized as Israeli citizens. It should be emphasized that this is not a request for Israeli citizenship for those who are not permanent residents or do not qualify under the Law of Return. Below, we will address the process of obtaining an Israeli citizenship certificate from the Ministry of Interior for those eligible.Israeli Citizenship Certificate – Ministry of Interior

How to Obtain the Certificate

Fill out the application form and schedule a meeting at the nearest Population and Immigration Authority office. If the application is made while abroad, one should approach the Israeli consulate in the country of residence. The certificate can be issued to individuals of all ages; however, minors under the age of 18 must visit the Population and Immigration Authority with one parent, or present a notarized power of attorney along with an identity card.

Applicants for an Israeli citizenship certificate from the Ministry of Interior can receive the certificate in both Hebrew and English. Additionally, it is possible to receive the certificate with or without the date of citizenship issuance noted. Furthermore, applicants can choose to receive a certificate that specifies the type of citizenship and the date it was granted, or a certificate without these details.

Technical Aspects of the Application for a Citizenship Certificate

As mentioned, Israeli citizenship from the Ministry of Interior can be obtained at one of the Population and Immigration Authority offices during business hours. When submitting the application, you must bring your identity card, or alternatively, a passport if the application is submitted at an Israeli consulate abroad. Before visiting the office, the relevant application form for an Israeli citizenship certificate must be downloaded from the Population and Immigration Authority’s website. Afterward, all sections of the form should be filled out in your handwriting, and the form should be submitted, as mentioned, either at the office or at a consulate abroad.

It is important to note that the application can be submitted on behalf of others, but if the applicant is not an immediate family member (first-degree relative), a notarized power of attorney must be presented. Additionally, if there are no first-degree relatives, second-degree relatives can submit the application, and heirs may also file it according to an inheritance order. In any other case, a court order is required.
